Benefits and Characteristics of Svaroopa® yoga

Picture
Svaroopa® (swa-ROO-pa) yoga is a gentle, yet deep form of hatha yoga that differs from other types of yoga in the following ways:
Svaroopa® classes are profoundly relaxing.  Each class begins and ends with a 15-minute relaxation (shavasana).  The first  is a guided awareness, structured to enable the student to be relaxed, yet aware of various parts of the body.  It includes guided  breathing (Ujjayi Pranayama), which increases inner awareness.  The shavasana at the end of the class is pure bliss.

Svaroopa
® poses (asanas) are gentle, yet work deeply to release tight muscles, particularly those behind the internal organs that are attached to the front of  the spine.  The asanas are frequently supported, using blankets, blocks, and other props to hold the body in the pose, thereby creating a "core release" for those deep spinal muscles.

Svaroopa®
yoga is extremely helpful for people who have back or neck pain, or other chronic conditions, and have not found other healing modalities that have worked well for them.  The release of spinal muscles begins at the tailbone and works up the spine to the ribcage.  Students often notice improvement and increased comfort after the first class.
